On my MacBook Pro 6.2
It makes no sense. It was recoded from ground up for as a 64-bit application. Futhermore, I've given it 4GB more RAM, an SSD and an i7 processor to boot.
What gives?
I've resisted the urge to make any conclusion/comment until now but it seems that I'm not alone. I speculate that CS5 does not take advantage of the GPU or I am missing a setting (not by default) that might affect the speed by which it draws/redraws while working.

Problem is I deleted CS4 because I don't like such redundancies and I believed that CS5 was a worthy replacement. Truth is I had a problem with the way CS4 would display its application name with the entire version name (something 100+ characters long that was uber-annoying).
Anyway, I'm hoping an update will fix this but this makes absolutely no sense. Seriously irritating!
